X-MAS RE-MEGO ROUNDUP EPISODE 6: EMCE TOYS, FRANKENSTEIN

Frankenstein! Yes the oringinal Mego was awesome with his goofiness but this Universal licensed may be the best of my recent Re-Megos. Up against the Phantom that was a tough fight. Everything on him is outstanding his headsculpt, his hands, outfit and boots. I'll have to track down the Wolfman who is equally as awesome. Too bad we have to wait till October for Dracula and the Mummy.
Well, that wraps her up for our post X-Mas Re-Mego roundup. On Monday we'll see a few odds and ends from X-mas 2010.

X-MAS RE-MEGO ROUNDUP EPISODE 5: CAST-A-WAY TOYS, THE PHANTOM

The Ghost Who Walks in all he retro Megolike goodness. In terms of quality and just outright awesomeness he blows the Mattel figures out of the water. The perfect combination of old school classic and new school toyability. His swivle biceps are a great update to the old style figure body and his pistols and working holsters (although a tad fragile) are all kinds of awesomeness. He makes me wish for a whole line of other classic heros like: The Shadow, The Lone Ranger, Dick Tracey, Zorro and such.
Come back this afternoon for our Monster finish.

X-MAS RE-MEGO ROUNDUP EPISODE 4: MATTEL RETRO ACTION WONDER WOMAN

Here's the Amazon Princess, a little too doll like but come to think of it not a doll-like as her 1970s predecessor. I don't really like the gold, when dealing with a basic cartoon color pallet (as is pretty obvious on the other heroes) I like yellow better. Although, at least it isn't a gold and yellow hybrid which Shazam! seems to run into these days. Well, this wraps up the DC figures. Tomorrow we'll have a double feature with a visit from a classic superhero and a monster of a finale.
The Superfriends (Robin's a sure thing for a future wave but a Wendy, Marvin and Wonderdog would be pure bliss).

X-MAS RE-MEGO ROUNDUP EPISODE 3: MATTEL RETRO ACTION SUPERMAN

It's the Man of Steel in all his plastic and fabric glory. Again body and boot issues aside he is a wonderful figure. Anytime we get a light blue suit mid length cape Superman it's a good thing. These make me a little sad that we're not also getting a Marvel Mego revival but knowing Hasbro they'd use that awful 9 inch body that their old DC figures and short lived Marvel line from a few years ago had.

X-MAS RE-MEGO ROUNDUP EPISODE 2: MATTEL RETRO ACTION AQUAMAN

Yes, it would of been cool to put Aquaman in front of some type of ocean or at least nautical style back drop but chalk it up to laziness. So here is the King of the Seven Seas slumming it in some back alley. The old Mego Aquaman was always a fave but this version just leaves me with meh. I have no idea why. I love his vivid colors and simplistic headsculpt. I'm not crazy about the very fragile painted on scales. Hopefully after these fellows have their transplant surgery onto Cast-A-Way Toys bodies I'll be more happy with him.

X-MAS RE-MEGO ROUNDUP EPISODE 1: MATTEL RETRO ACTION BATMAN

Yes, these Mattel Re-Megos have been reviewed and documented elsewhere on the web, so I'm not going to delve into a full review. Yes, the rumors are true the Mattel bodies suck (at least from the waist down). Supposedly this is fixed on wave 3 figures, but my only wave 3 is Wonder Woman who uses Mattel's not as bad but nothing to write home about Monster High doll bodies. Still too many have been focusing on the flaws with these (yes the boots are freaking huge) and not the the pluses (hello, it's a Mego Batman available at retail in 2010!). I like him better than Hasbro's effort years back, who I wish I still had and was coincidently my very first Ebay purchase. Although, in this world where we are rocketing away from the good old days at lightning speed it's nice to be able to buy a Silver Age blue and gray Batman.
Here he is with his 1970s counterpart who needs some new gloves from Dr. Mego.

After Christmas Round-Up

Yes, I know January is more than half over but this is better late than never. This Christmas has definately been a Re-Mego Christmas with a total of 6 new Mego style figures received as gifts and we will be covering them here along with other assorted goodies. Plus a Blog-makeover is comming as well as two new animations. But the biggest news is our newest team member (making "us" an "us" and not a "me" anymore), Woody Tobias Jr. This gentleman e-mailed me out of the blue offering to do a semi-regular feature and guest film reviews. I figured what the hell and brought him on board. Although, I must say that I am not 100% convinced that this isn't some kind of prank by either Puppetboy or the nefarious Mr. Sloss. We shall see as I look forward to his premire post.

Na-noo, na-noo.

DouchebagTeen Sidekick Squareoff

What if Stiles from Teen Wolf got in a fight with Evil Ed from Fright Night (before he became a werewolf), who'd win?
